Denali National Park

Denali is a stunning Alaska national park that is home to the tallest point in North America, and over 6 million acres of wilderness. Despite the massive size, only a very small portion of Denali is accessible via roads and trails. Most of the park is remote wilderness.

When you visit Denali, you can drive your own car for the first 15 miles, and then you’ll need to take a bus to go further. There are some established hiking trails within the first 15 miles, but after that, you’re encouraged to hike off trail and create your own path through the wilderness (if you’re prepared).

Visitors also enjoy taking flightseeing tours over the park, watching dogsled demonstrations and looking for wildlife.

The Best Things To Do in Denali National Park

Denali National Park

Go hiking. There are some great hiking trails within the first few miles of the park. I enjoyed the Savage River Trail and the Horseshoe Lake Trail.

Watch the summer sled dog demonstration. Sled dogs are instrumental in providing transportation in the winter, but during the summer, the rangers lead demonstrations where you can see the dogs run!

Take a bus tour. You can choose between a transit bus, or a narrated bus tour to explore deeper inside of Denali. Either way, the driver stops for wildlife sightings!
