New England Travel Guides

The New England area refers to 6 states in the Northeastern US: Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The region is known for quintessential small towns, ocean front views, vibrant fall foliage and outdoor adventure.

From hiking in Acadia to walking the Freedom Trail in Boston, there are endless things to do on a New England road trip. A few of the best areas to visit include Stowe, Vermont, the New Hampshire White Mountains, the Berkshires in Massachusetts, and more.

I spent an entire fall season exploring the region, and was blown away by all of the beauty! Learn more in my New England travel guides.

How to Get to New England

Some areas of New England are far from major airports, so you’ll want to plan your road trips accordingly. The Boston Logan International Airport is essentially the gateway into the region. You’ll be able to find the most frequent and affordable flights here, and it’s in a great location to drive out to the other New England states. You’ll also want to rent a car to get around.

Tips for a New England Fall Road Trip

New England is an incredible place to visit in the fall! The vibrant fall foliage is some of the best in the United States, and this is a trip that should be on everyone’s USA bucket list.

Here are some tips to ensure a successful fall visit:

  • Peak foliage varies year to year and can be different depending on which area you’re in. My advice is to plan the best you can, but don’t stress too much about being in the exact right places at the exact right times. You’ll experience beauty no matter what! However, I recommend planning your trip in the first two weeks of October.

  • Check out the live foliage trackers for each state for real-time updates. Here is the Vermont tracker and the New Hampshire tracker.

  • Expect crowds in the popular spots (such as Artist’s Bluff in New Hampshire). Go early if you can, and book your lodging ahead of time, as it will likely sell out.

  • Download offline maps before you go in case you lose service.

Massachussets Travel Guides

Massachusetts is home to Boston, a major city in the US that is especially known for its history. On the Freedom Trail, you can get a great overview of the important historic sites around the city. I spent a month based in Boston and loved trying some delicious food, visiting museums and more.

In addition to Boston, Massachusetts has some incredibly beautiful towns and trails in the Berkshire region. Massachusetts also has great beaches, which you can enjoy in places like Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
