Virginia is a state pivotal to the establishment of the United States. It’s known as the “Mother of Presidents,” as 8 US presidents were born here, including George Washington.
Virginia is also a state with a great variety of nature. The Blue Ridge Mountains pass through the state, and Virginia is home to the stunning Shenandoah National Park. Virginia also has five mountain peaks that are over 5,000 feet, and has a quarter of the Appalachian Trail.
Elsewhere in the state, there are over 7,000 tidal miles of coastline. The state has some nice beaches and parks along the coast, such as Assateague Island National Seashore. Other notable natural sites across the state include Natural Bridge State Park, Great Falls Park, and the Great Dismal Swamp.
Along with nature, Virginia borders Washington D.C., and is home to other notable cities such as Richmond, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake. See below for Virginia travel guides.
